How to Tint Your Eyebrows and Eyelashes

Before You Start Tinting

1.

Match the tint color to the same or a similar shade as your hair.

2.

Get your eyebrows shaped well before you do the tinting.

3.

If you’re doing it at home, make sure that you read the instructions on the product leaflet carefully.

4.

Always make sure that you do a patch test, on the palm of the hand for example, to see if the tint is compatible with your skin.

5.

Ensure that the face is clean and free from any makeup etc.

Practical Steps

1.

The following items will be used: Petroleum Jelly, Cotton wool, Glass bowl, Tint for your eyelashes and eyebrows, 10% Peroxide, Cotton buds, Small Scissors, 212 Spoolie Brush

2.

Apply petroleum jelly all around the eyes and eyebrows, depending on the area where you want to tint. This will ensure that no color gets onto the skin of the eyes or forehead.

3.

Cut a round cotton wool in half, dip it into water and squeeze out the excess water. Apply these half-moon pieces underneath the eyes to ensure that no tint comes in contact with the skin.

4.

Take a glass bowl and squeeze out a pea-sized amount of tint into the bottom of the bowl.

5.

Drop 3 drops of 10% peroxide onto the tinting color and mix it with a cotton bud or brow brush. It is advisable that you use colors that are two shades closer to the eyebrow color.

6.

Apply the color onto the eyelashes. If you do this on yourself, then make sure that your eye is closed while looking in the mirror with the other eye.

7.

Leave the color on for 10 to 15minutes. Please check to product’s leaflet for the exact duration.

8.

Moving onto the eyebrows: Take a glass bowl and squeeze out a pea-sized amount of tint into the bottom of the bowl.

9.

Drop 3 drops of 10% peroxide onto the tinting color and mix it with a cotton bud or brow brush. Remember to check the product’s leaflet for exact amount.

10.

Apply this color onto the eyebrows starting at the inside corners of the eyes and working outwards. Apply it softly so that the cotton bud barely touches the eyebrows otherwise the skin will also get tinted.

11.

Leave the tint between 45 and 90 seconds, depending on the darkness of the color you want to achieve and also according to the particular product’s instructions.

12.

Wet a cotton wool and wipe all over the eyebrows.

13.

Finally, take your eyebrow comb and comb the eyebrows neatly towards their original position.

14.

After 15 minutes, take a wet cotton wool and use it to wipe over the eyelashes. Repeat this step a few times using multiple cotton wools until there’s no color visible on the cotton wool.

15.

Wet a cotton bud and gently “roll” it over and underneath the eyelashes. Keep the eyes closed while doing this. Repeat the same procedure on the other side.

16.

Never leave the color on longer than instructed, as given its thick concentration and small area of application, such dyes literally work within minutes, and by leaving them on for too long, you risk coloring your skin as well.
